BROCKVILLE – Three area hospitals have received money to address what the Ontario government calls “hallway health care.”
Local MPP Steve Clark was in Brockville this afternoon to make the announcement.
“Over the past year, I’ve brought forward the long standing challenges to hospitals like Brockville, Perth-Smiths Falls and Kemptville have faced and for years these real and significant challenges have gone ignored. That change begins today,” Clark said.
Brockville General Hospital is receiving the lion’s share with $5.5 million, while Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital gets $1.26 million and Kemptville District Hospital receives $158,000.
The money is part of an additional $68 million for small and medium-sized hospitals across Ontario meant to address “sector challenges” and “previous funding model inequities” while protecting core services.
It’s in addition to the $384 million in base hospital funding doled out this year which was in the provincial budget.
Clark said this would be “the first step” to provide financial stability to hospitals, regardless of their size.
