Update 5:30 p.m. Thursday: Area hospitals get over $6.9M to address health care
BROCKVILLE – Local MPP Steve Clark is expected to make a “major health-care funding announcement” for the Brockville General Hospital this afternoon (Thursday).
Clark will make the announcement at 3 p.m. on behalf of Health Minister Christine Elliott.
It would be the second major cash influx into the hospital, which has been undergoing an expansion and renovation.
In February, Clark joined hospital staff when he brought word the health care facility would get $1,267,151 from the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund.
Construction started in March 2018 to build a five floor, 175,000 square foot addition in order to transfer services from the Garden Street site to Charles Street.
The City of Brockville committed $4.7 million to the project and the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation has promised $10 million. The foundation reached that goal this month.
All construction should be done by the fall of 2020.
