BROCKVILLE – Local MPP Steve Clark says the region’s largest school board will be getting nearly $1 million more in transfers from the province.
Clark announced the $342 million on Monday for the 2019-2020 school year, which is $927,000 more than the previous year. He says it’s also the largest allocation of Grants for Student Needs (GSN) funding in the board’s history.
“The board should be very pleased with an increased GSN allocation this year, particularly in light of their declining enrollment,” Clark said. “It’s disappointing the board did not wait for complete numbers before going to the media and engaging in fear-mongering tactics.”
The MPP added that he reassured the board last fall after it expressed concerns over a school bus arbitration decision that left the board in a multi-million dollar deficit.
In multiple media reports, UCDSB board chairman John McAllister put most of the blame on the busing decision for sending out 100 layoff notices to school teachers.
