BROCKVILLE – The committee behind restoring the Brockville Railway Tunnel says it will make a special announcement tonight (Friday).
The news about the restoration and opening of Canada’s first railway tunnel will me made at the Brockville Arts Center at 7 p.m. during a free concert dubbed “All Aboard! Full Speed Ahead!”
The concert will feature railway-themed music by A.J. Benoit and his Spike Drivers – John Jodoin and Mike Anderson, as well as artists Tom Wilson and Mary Ross-Cornstock.
The tunnel is in the midst of a restoration plan and is scheduled to open in August 2017 in time for Brockville’s Canada 150 birthday celebrations.
The city earmarked $300,000 in April 2016 for the $2.5 million first phase of the Railway Tunnel Park project. The federal government also gave $275,000 through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program for the restoration.
