Health authority focusing on fall prevention

BROCKVILLE – With a population projected to be among the oldest among all the Ontario Local Health Integration Networks (LHIN), the South East LHIN is focusing on preventing falls.

The LHIN and the Regional Integrated Fall Prevention Steering Committee have launched a fall prevention and management strategy.

The full report and plan, including a new website, was released by the South East LHIN today.

The strategy will focus on five key areas, including educating the public on fall prevention.

According to a population distribution profile, the biggest population segment in the South East LHIN (an area from Belleville to Brockville and north of Perth and Bancroft) is in the 45-64 year age range and 1 in 5 residents were over the age of 65.

The Ontario average age is 40.4 years. An average age for the population in the South East LHIN was not available.

November is Fall Prevention Month.
