EASTERN ONTARIO – For scores of motorists in the region, the red and white they saw on Canada Day were flashing lights in their rear view mirror.

During the one day blitz on Friday (July 1) officers handed out 342 tickets across Eastern Ontario – over 80 per cent of those for speeding.

Three people were charged with drunk driving and three people were caught texting or talking on a cell phone.

Another half dozen motorists were charged with not moving over when an emergency vehicle is parked at the side of the road.

The O.P.P., East Region Traffic Teams and local detachments were part of the “Safety Without Borders” campaign, which also involved American police services.
