LANSDOWNE – With temperatures pushing 30 degrees, the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands has opened cooling stations to help residents escape the heat.
The two stations are at the Lansdowne Recreation Hall on Jessie Street and the Lyndhurst Recreation Room on Lyndhurst Road.
Both stations are open from noon until 8 p.m. today (Wednesday).
You’re also being advised to drink plenty of liquids, such as water.
While Leeds-Grenville has been spared any weather advisories, parts of southwestern Ontario have been under heat warnings.
The hot, dry conditions have also made it a potentially dangerous situation for township firefighters.
As such, a fire ban was put in effect as of 12:30 p.m. yesterday (July 5).
