BROCKVILLE – A black bear, wandering in the east end of the city, is still on the loose.

Brockville police say some “wrong information went out.” That was concerning a tweet that stated the bear had been captured and released.

In fact, there was a failed attempt to tranquilize the bear and the bruin got away into the woods.

The police service is apologizing for the social media blunder and the tweet has been removed.

The young bear was spotted in a King Street East neighbourhood early Monday (May 9) morning and the Ministry of Natural Resources was sent to the area to tranquilize the bear.

The bear was shot but got into the woods and disappeared around the north end of Oxford Avenue.
