BROCKVILLE – City police have caught up with a woman they believe has been making crank phone calls about abusing animals.

A 40-year-old woman, originally from the Hamilton area, was arrested yesterday afternoon (May 9) after officers chased her down near a pay phone at the Sears entrance of the 1000 Islands Mall.

Police say they’ve received about nine calls in the last two weeks from a woman talking about harming animals with guns and knives.

But the culprit got away each time before officers could get to the area. However, they knew who they were looking for after reviewing security camera footage.

Police say the suspect has a history of this type of behaviour in other communities.

She’s being held for a court appearance on a charge of public mischief.
