QUEEN’S PARK – Two Eastern Ontario MPPs have each launched petitions to save their Service Ontario outlets from being closed.
Leeds-Grenville MPP Steve Clark and Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell have launched petitions to save the Kemptville and Morrisburg offices.
There’s a third community driven petition on change.org to save the office in Kemptville.
The Liberal government announced the closure of nine offices across Ontario this fall and winter in a bid to streamline operations.
The other locations are Mississauga, Milton, Guelph, Embrun, Terrace Bay, Minden and Blind River.
“I’m shocked the government would even consider slashing this frontline service from Kemptville – which we all know is one of the fastest-growing communities in Eastern Ontario,” MPP Clark said.
MPP McDonell, who is also the Progressive Conservative consumer services critic, launched his position today (Tuesday) to save all nine offices.
McDonell said it would force residents in small communities to travel a long way for government services and land registry records and deprive those who can’t drive.
“The people of Ontario, including residents of smaller and rural communities such as Kemtpville and Morrisburg have built the province’s public services with their tax dollars and dedicated hard work,” McDonell said.
