Here are your latest Brockville and area headlines:

  • A woman is in critical condition in hospital after being pulled from the swimming pool at the Brockville YMCA. Paramedics, firefighters and police tended to a 27-year-old in distress at the Park Street pool on Sunday. Police say life saving measures, which included CPR, were immediately performed on the victim.
  • Queen’s University is looking for current and former correctional workers for a mental health study. The psychotherapy lab is studying whether online cognitive behavioural therapy can address mental health challenges in the profession. Participants will get 12 weeks of free online CBT. The lab is hoping to tap into the workforce from the St. Lawrence Valley Correctional and Treatment Center.
  • Search crews will be back on the St. Lawrence River today, east of Cornwall, looking for 30-year-old Casey Oakes. He hasn’t been seen since 9:30 p.m. Wednesday after leaving the east end of the Cornwall Island. A boat, believed to be his, was later found near the same location where two families died, trying to illegally enter the U.S. through Snye, Que.
  • An 18-year-old Kingston man is facing a domestic assault charge after problems at a camp out. Gananoque police were called to a parking lot on Queen Street Saturday morning for multiple dropped 911 calls. They found a couple camping for the night and figured out the calls were coming from them. After leaving, a neighbour called to report screaming. Police returned and the man was arrested and charged. The woman was treated at hospital for minor injuries.
  • Some car trouble has resulted in a driver ending up with a 90 day licence suspension. Gananoque police stopped Wednesday morning (March 29) to help and believed the man was drunk and asked him to blow into a Breathalyzer. He refused. A 37-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with refusing to provide a breath sample. His driver’s licence was suspended and he has an upcoming day in court.
