
Here are your latest Brockville and area headlines:
- The mayor of Augusta Township says the municipality will see at least 100 new jobs in the next couple of years. Jeff Shaver told a mayor’s breakfast audience on Friday the jobs will come from four businesses setting up shop while spending millions of dollars locally in the process.
- A coalition is looking to recognize those who may a difference for children in communities across Leeds-Grenville – especially during the pandemic years. The Every Kid in our Communities Coalition is seeking nominations to recognize “asset builders” at a ceremony in June at the Brockville and Area YMCA.
- The number of victims recovered from the St. Lawrence River near Akwesasne has increased from six to eight. The eight include a toddler and an infant from two families of Romanian and Indian descent. The two children had Canadian citizenship. The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne says the families were “attempting to enter the U.S. illegally from Canada.”
- The railway tunnel on Blockhouse Island will officially open for another season this week. The city will hold an event Thursday at 2 p.m.
