OTTAWA – Local MP Michael Barrett has been named to the Conservative Party of Canada’s shadow cabinet.

The Leeds-Grenville, Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes Member of Parliament will hold the ethics portfolio.

“It is an honour to be named as the new Shadow Cabinet Minister for Ethics…our…team will work tirelessly for Canadians and to hold the Trudeau Government to account,” Barrett said in a tweet Friday afternoon.

Eric Duncan, MP in the neighbouring riding of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, is pleased with Barrett’s appointment.

“Michael’s a great guy. He helped me during the campaign. We’re working together already, several conversations about the water levels in the St. Lawrence River and some of the challenges with the International Joint Commission. Michael’s a great colleague he’s deserves that with the ethics post and he’ll do a great job,” Duncan told Newswatch.

Parliament is set to resume Thursday, Dec. 5.
