Murder charge laid, victim identified in Cedar Street fight

BROCKVILLE – City police have laid a murder charge and identified the victim in a Sunday night stabbing on Cedar Street.

Police were called to Cedar between Church and Abbott Streets around 10 p.m. for a man who needed an ambulance, according to a caller.

Officers and paramedics found a man suffering from stab wounds. They tried lifesaving efforts but were not able to save him.

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Matthew McKinnon.

After a standoff with police and working through a negotiatior, a suspect surrendered.

Ryan Russell Ballantyne, 34, has been charged with second degree murder and possession of a dangerous weapon.

He was held in custody.
