Identity of scuba diver released by O.P.P.

GANANOQUE – Provincial police have released the name of a scuba diver who died shortly after surfacing in the St. Lawrence River off Treasure Island last week.

Leeds County O.P.P. say it’s 53-year-old David Snethcamp of Akron, Ohio.

According to police, Snethcamp “quickly lost vital signs” on Friday afternoon (Sept. 20) after coming up in the Bateau Channel, 20 kilometers west of Gananoque.

Friends had performed CPR until emergency services arrived. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Snethcamp worked at a Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) development facility called Atlantic Outfitters Inc. in Akron and taught scuba diving classes, according to his Facebook profile.

O.P.P. are working with the coroner’s office to determine the cause of death.
