Brockville will have ‘conservative’ job market to end 2019, Manpower says

BROCKVILLE – Brockville will close out 2019 with a “conservative” hiring climate, according to Manpower Group.

The latest Employment Outlook Survey shows 13 per cent of businesses asked plan to hire, 7 per cent plan cutbacks and 80 per cent are keeping things as is.

The overall net employment for October through December is one percentage point lower than the last quarter and no change compared to the same three months in 2018.

Manpower Country Manager Darlene Minatel says people looking for work will find a “mixed bag” because the hiring outlook – like the numbers show in Brockville – is weakening even though there was record low unemployment this summer.

“Companies want to remain competitive and maintain their employee levels as they go into the new year. At the same time, there is a real struggle to find and retain qualified talent,” she said.

Nationally, the net employment outlook was flat compared to the previous quarter and “stable” compared to October through December in 2018.
