School buses cancelled Monday due to extreme cold

BROCKVILLE – With an extreme cold warning in place, school buses have been cancelled for Monday across Leeds-Grenville.

The schools will remain open for those parents who can or will drive their children to school.

“Due to extremely cold temperatures and high wind chills expected tomorrow…all transportation for the Upper Canada District School Board will be cancelled. This is out of concern for the safety of students who would be waiting for buses in the extreme cold,” the UCDSB said in a statement.

Since the bus transportation is a consortium — Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario (STEO) — for the area school boards, this will also affect English Catholic schools under the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario.

The Ottawa French transportation consortium has not made any announcement regarding its buses as of 11 p.m. Sunday.

The temperature Monday morning in Leeds-Grenville is expected to be around -24 but will feel like -34 with the wind chill.

This is the third weather-related bus cancellation this school year.
