BROCKVILLE – A Lansdowne woman is accused to using her position as a caregiver to steal a “substantial amount” of the life savings of one of her clients, provincial police said Tuesday.

The charges were laid after an eight month investigation.

The alleged fraud was reported in May 2018 after a 95-year-old woman from the Lansdowne-Gananoque area lost $150,000 in money and jewellery to her caregiver, Leeds County O.P.P. said.

Martina Havel, 42, from Leeds and Thousand Islands Township is facing two counts of theft and one count each of fraud, false pretenses, possession of property obtained by crime and breach of trust.

She will appear in a Brockville court March 1.
