ROCKPORT – The body of an 11-year-old boy, who went missing during a Labour Day weekend boating accident, has been recovered from the St. Lawrence River.
Leeds County O.P.P., civilian and O.P.P. divers, township firefighters, the Canada Border Services Agency recovered the body on Friday (Oct. 19).
They are pretty sure it’s the Ottawa boy but a coroner will confirm the identity.
An investigation by the O.P.P. is ongoing.
A family, who was on vacation in the area, was thrown into the water Saturday, Sept. 1 when their boat capsized, west of Rockport. Four people were rescued but the 11-year-old failed to resurface after going in the water.
Witnesses described it as a freak accident – the boat hit choppy water on the heavily travelled St. Lawrence River that holiday weekend.
