Letter to the Editor: Take care of Brockville path network

The evening of Oct. 4, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. on the walk path by Stewart Boulevard and Front Avenue a disabled man was travelling on the path seated in his wheelchair and ran into trouble when approaching the curved hilly part of the path. I watched him struggle with little space he had due to the brick wall and overgrown bushes. He could not get his wheelchair straight.

At that point I asked my husband to go help him and just then the man’s wheelchair went off the path, down into the bushes. I was scared he was going to roll over. We ran to his aid and was able to get the man up and mobile.

This is not the first time I’ve seen people on bikes, scooters and wheelchairs have trouble. The path is uneven from a recent repair and there is no barrier on the creek side. Also, the bushes are overgrown, cutting off path space. If you want to take care of Brockville, then you also have to take care of the paths and the people that use them as well. Let’s be safe.
