BROCKVILLE – Police are searching for a man who escaped the Brockville General Hospital and was later involved in a violent break-in.
City police say their officers saw the man running down Hill Street around 6 p.m. last night (Sunday) wearing only his underwear.
Shortly after, police got a call about a break-in on Ormond Street, where a wheelchair-bound man caught the suspect breaking into his house to steal his shoes.
“The resident went and confronted the intruder and a struggle ensued before the 29 year old fled the residence,” police said.
Brockville police asked the O.P.P. to bring in their canine unit to search for the suspect, who was last seen fleeing on Hamilton Street, but they weren’t able to find him.
Joshua Hawkins of Brockville is 29 years old, 175 pounds and 6 feet tall with a medium build, short brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a yellow Tommy Hilfiger sweater, a teal polo shirt and black shoes.
Police say he may be bleeding from his arm after fleeing treatment at the hospital and may have minor injuries as a result of the altercation with the home owner.
Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Laurie Bennett at 613-342-0127 extension 4221.
As of 2:30 p.m. Monday, Brockville police said they were getting lots of information but Hawkins had not been located.
