MAITLAND – A chemical company is closing its operations in Augusta Township, affecting 33 employees, according to Unifor.
“The closure of the Suva Division of Chemours Canada Company at the Maitland Site…is another blow to the Brockville area,” the union said.
Unifor says this is the latest chapter in a systematic shutdown of the four operating divisions since 2004 and that production will stop on Oct. 31, 2018.
Unifor Local 28-O represents chemical controllers at the plant and says the company will honour the collective agreement with severage packages for affected workers.
Chemours – a spinoff of DuPont in 2014 – has its global headquarters in Wilmington, Del.
The Maitland operations are at 1400 County Road 2, west of Prescott.
