No Rideau Lakes by-election; Dunfield to be acclaimed Monday

RIDEAU LAKES TOWNSHIP – It turns out voters won’t have to go to the polls this summer after all.

Township clerk and returning officer, Mary Ellen Truelove, told Brockville Newswatch Friday, there had been two candidates for the by-election in Bastard and South Burgess Ward (Ward 1).

“But as of 2 p.m. on May 31, which was nomination day, we did have one candidate withdraw their nomination,” Truelove said.

Rob Dunfield will be acclaimed and sworn in on Monday at 6 p.m. during the township’s council meeting.

Dunfield – a Portland resident and manager of the Rideau Lakes Golf and Country Club in Westport, Ont., has been on council before.

He will be stepping into the seat once held by Coun. Doug Good.

Good died in early March after a vehicle he was in went through the ice near Cow Island on Big Rideau Lake.

Attempts to reach Dunfield were unsuccessful.
