SMITHS FALLS – A Smiths Falls developer has bought the County Fair Mall, saving the landmark from closure.

The Saumure Group, along with Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow, announced before a crowd at the mall on Wednesday, the building has been bought and will be revitalized.

Representing the Saumure Group of Smiths Falls was Vice President Chris Saumure.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed but it “is a fantastic early Christmas present for Smiths Falls,” Randy Hillier, MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington, posted on his Facebook page.

The mall’s owner, RioCan REIT, had planned to close the mall by January 2017 and tenants were given eviction notices.
