BROCKVILLE – A Kingston man is facing a number of charges, including assaulting a police officer, after Leeds County O.P.P. stopped a vehicle Friday night (Nov. 25).
Police say the Jeep Compass was travelling at least 50 kilometers an hour over the 100 kilometer an hour speed limit, heading east through Elizabethtown-Kitley Township.
“The officer conducted a traffic stop on the Jeep and during the investigation the male driver resisted arrest and assaulted the O.P.P. officer at the scene,” the O.P.P. said.
A 53-year-old man from Kingston is facing criminal charges of assaulting and resisting a police officer, Highway Traffic Act charges of driving while under suspension and stunt driving, and driving with an open container of liquor under the Liquor Licence Act.
The man was arrested but later released with a January court date in Brockville.
