BROCKVILLE – Brockville General Hospital will be receiving nearly $3.2 million more this year in a transfer payment from the Ontario Ministry of Health.

The province announced that $3,196,000 would be coming on top of the existing funding from the Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) for BGH, for a total of $8,561,900.

The money will be used to improve access to care and reduce hospital stays for patients and families.

“Brockville General Hospital provides valuable services to our community. Everyone locally knows we are trying to recover from financial challenges. This funding helps us tremendously to maintain high quality services in Leeds Grenville,” said Kevin Empey, supervisor for BGH.

The hospital was $4.2 million in the red in the last fiscal year, ending in March 2016. It also had to take out a $5.3 million loan from the LHIN to cover its expenses and that loan is due by the end of March.
