PRESCOTT – The accommodation review committee for the Brockville, Grenville and Athens schools will hear various delegations tonight to save a number of schools in the region.

The Building for the Future Accommodation Review Committee public meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at South Grenville District High School at 1000 Edward Street in Prescott.

This is the second of four meetings the Upper Canada District School Board has organized for the first round of public meetings.

A meeting Monday night in Cornwall drew 500-600 people to save rural schools.

Under the school board’s proposed plan, in Brockville, Prince of Wales School and Toniata would close by September 2017.

In North Grenville, Oxford-on-Rideau School would close by January 2018.

In South Grenville, Benson Public School would closed by September 2017 while South Edwardsburg and Maynard Public Schools would also be closed, conditional on provincial funding for a new K-6 school.

In the Athens (River) family of schools, Pineview Public School would close and being consolidated with Meadowview School.

This is the first of two public meetings for the so-called “ARC3” before the board receives final recommendations on February 15, 2017 and makes a final decision on March 23, 2017.

Brockville Newswatch will have live coverage of the meeting on Twitter @brockvillenw starting at 6:30 p.m.
