MORRISBURG – There’s a doctor shuffle going on at the St. Lawrence Medical Clinic.
Dr. Paul Coolican, who has been with the clinic for 28 years, is retiring.
He’s handing over his practice and patient files to Dr. Melanie Waite.
Waite has been working with Collican since June, according to the Morrisburg Leader.
Coolican plans to keep his medical privileges at the Winchester hospital and plans to be available for vacation relief for the practicing doctors at the clinic.
Waite was part of a previous installment of “A Week in the Country” – a joint education program with the University of Ottawa and WDMH – to introduce students to rural medicine.
Also joining the clinic in Morrisburg and Ingleside is Dr. Herve Weka – originally from the Montreal and New Brunwick area and took his medical training in the Maritimes.
He’s taking over the patient files from Dr. Lois Furtado.
Right now, both Waite and Weka are not taking any new patients.
