Body recovered from Big Rideau Lake

PORTLAND – A Lanark O.P.P. led search for a young man, presumed downed in the west end of Big Rideau Lake, was called off Saturday after a body was recovered.

The 24-year-old Richmond Hill man was on a personal watercraft near Sand Island at the Narrows that connect Upper Rideau Lake and Big Rideau Lake on Friday when something happened, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

Nearby people sprung into action to try and rescue the man, the paper said.

A body was recovered Saturday morning though police have not confirmed the victim’s identity.

The identity is not being released at the request of the family.
