JOHNSTOWN – A Canadian Forces defence vessel will be open to tours this weekend.

The HMCS Goose Bay will arrive at the Port of Johnstown for the weekend, where people will be able to tour the boat Saturday and Sunday (July 9-10).

She will be docked at the newly constructed Harbourfront Dock and tours will happen from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The HMCS Goose Bay, with the pennant number 707, is a coastal defence vessel and has been in operation since 1998.

The Kingston class ship is 55 meters long (181 feet), 11 meters wide (37 feet) and weighs roughly 970 metric tons.

The Royal Canadian Navy ship’s home port is Halifax, N.S.

HMCS Goose Bay was in Cobourg, Ont. on Tuesday (July 5) but public tours were cancelled there because the ship couldn’t get into the dock over concerns with the depth of the Cobourg harbour.
