CARDINAL – A home west of Cardinal has extensive damage after a Wednesday afternoon fire.

Edwardsburgh-Cardinal firefighters were called around 5:30 p.m. to the single-storey home about five kilometers west of the town.

The home at 1700 County Road 2 had a large adjoining garage with a single bay door which towered over the dwelling on the north side of highway.

The garage was fully involved by the time firefighters arrived.

They were able to keep the flames, fanned by brisk winds, from catching a neighbouring home on fire.

Still, the mishap ended with damage to both properties with a total damage estimate close to $150,000.

The fire is not considered suspicious.

The roadway had to be closed at Blair Road while firefighters battled the blaze but it has since reopened.
