BROCKVILLE – Four people have been arrested after city police discovered a group of suspected thieves pretending to carry out an early morning move.
Officers stopped a U-Haul truck around 3:30 a.m. Saturday (June 12), driven by a 19-year-old local woman.
A 31-year-old man from the Kingston-area, identified as the boyfriend of the driver, was in the passenger seat.
But police found the story that the two were moving to his new home a little fishy considering the time of day and the fact there was no furniture in the van – just scrap metal and copper pipe.
That’s when another guy burst from the side door of the van and took off, with police chasing him until he was captured. It turns out the 21-year-old from Joyceville was wanted by authorities.
A second woman was also found in the back of the truck – a 29-year-old from the Kingston-area.
All four were arrested with the women released with a future court date while the men were appearing in a Brockville bail court today (Monday).
Police now have the job of figuring out who owns all the stuff in the truck, which includes electronics, power drill batteries and copper piping.
