Thousand Islands Parkway to host fitness challenge

MALLORYTOWN – Two townships are coming together to celebrate health and fitness this weekend.

Leeds and the Thousand Islands and Front of Yonge Townships will be hosting the first 1000 Islands Parkway Challenge and Mini-Challenge for the younger set.

The event on Saturday June 4, 2016 coincides with National Health and Fitness Day.

Participants will be able to run, walk, wheel or jump on their bicycles Saturday morning with seven water stations along the parkway from Brown’s Bay to Rockport Recreation Hall.

The challenge is 15 kilometers point-to-point while the mini-challenge will be a 1-2 kilometer loop from Rockport.

The full challenge starts at 9 a.m. and the mini-challenge is at 11 a.m. with registration for both events an hour before their start times.

A barbecue at the Rockport Recreation Hall will happen at the end of the event, as well as an awards presentation.
