BROCKVILLE – Facing a tricky situation, Brockville police had to taser a depressed man late Monday afternoon (April 11) as he sat in a car with a knife.

Brockville police say the 67-year-old was depressed over health issues with his spouse and was holding a knife to his stomach, threatening to hurt himself.

The man had allegedly threatened his 19-year-old granddaughter with the knife earlier in the day.

Officers were challenged with the fact the man had his seatbelt on and was on the passenger side.

Worried that he might get out of the vehicle with the weapon or stab himself, officers deployed a taser, resulting in the man dropping the knife.

He was arrested and then taken to hospital for a mental health check.

The man is also facing criminal charges of uttering threats, assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.
