Suspected identity thief caught on Highway 401

FRONT OF YONGE – A driver has been arrested on Highway 401, suspected of being an identity thief.

Leeds County O.P.P. said a member of the East Region Highway Enforcement Team stopped a Mazda vehicle yesterday afternoon (Feb. 23) in the westbound lanes after officers were notified about possible Provincial Offences Act offences.

When officers were checking the vehicle they found a large amount of cash, plus they were also having trouble identifying the suspect.

The man – a 42-year-old from the Scarborough, Ont. area – was arrested on the spot.

He is charged with possession of property obtained by crime, obstruction police, possession of a credit card, impersonation and trafficking in stolen goods.

He appeared in a Brockville court today (Feb. 24).
