SOUTH DUNDAS – A snowmobiler has died after hitting a ditch off a trail, west of Williamsburg.
Provincial police were called to the area of Sullivan Road around 1 p.m. yesterday (Feb. 23) where two sleds had hit a deep ditch just off the trail.
One of the two men driving – identified as Justin Petersen, 26, of Ottawa – was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver – a 36-year-old man from Manotick – was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
SD&G O.P.P. Const. Joel Doiron told Brockville Newswatch the two men had ridden down to the area from the Ottawa area, though he couldn’t say whether it was a private trail or OFSC trail.
Doiron said the man that survived had called for help.
He added that the victim had not struck any object but had died from the impact of the crash.
Collision investigators and SD&G O.P.P. officers are still working on the case to figure out whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
