Here are the latest local, regional and national headlines on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) for Monday, November 15, 2021:
- There have been 607,173 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across Ontario, an increase of 666 cases from the previous day (VAX: 300 unvaccinated, 24 partially vaccinated, 300 fully vaccinated, 42 unknown). There were 661 cases reported Saturday and 598 on Friday. There have been 592,461 people recovered from the virus while 9,934 have died. The number of Ontario people tested is 19,341,352 of which 7,708 have pending results.
- Canada’s coronavirus case total (as of Friday) is 1,745,349. The country has 29,309 deaths from the virus – 10 in the Yukon, 12 in the Northwest Territories, four in Nunavut, 2,257 in British Columbia, 3,171 in Alberta, 891 in Saskatchewan, 1,269 in Manitoba, 9,921 in Ontario, 11,535 in Quebec, 121 in New Brunswick, 16 in Newfoundland & Labrador and 102 in Nova Scotia.
- The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit added 12 cases Friday from the previous two days to bring the regional total to 1,984 confirmed cases, of which 32 are active (five more than Wednesday) and 1,888 are recovered (seven more than Wednesday). The number of deaths to date is 64. There are two people in hospital (two more than Wednesday). There are no active institutional outbreaks. The community case breakdown is: Lanark County East 442 cases (seven active), Lanark County West 443 cases (seven active), Leeds-Grenville Central 246 cases (five active), Leeds-Grenville East 399 cases (five active), Leeds-Grenville West 222 cases (seven active) and Unknown/Out of Region 25 cases (one active).
- The Eastern Ontario Health Unit added nine cases Friday over the previous two days – four in Prescott-Russell, two in SD&G and three in Cornwall – to bring the regional total to 5,900 confirmed cases, of which 54 are active (12 fewer than Wednesday) and 5,716 are resolved (21 more than Wednesday). The number of deaths to date is 129. There are seven people in hospital (five fewer than Wednesday) and four in the ICU (one more than Wednesday). There are three institutional outbreaks (no change). Testing increased 504 to 169,480. The breakdown of cases is: Prescott-Russell 2,274 cases (10 active), SD&G 1,363 cases (eight active), Cornwall 1,775 cases (30 active) and Akwesasne (ON/QC) 488 cases (six active)(Akwesasne health department reported 13 new cases Friday: 503 total cases, 19 active, nine deaths to date).
- Vaccines: Ontario 22,712,900 (+13,066, last update Nov. 14); EOHU 332,794 (last update Nov. 12, +459 from previous update Nov. 10); LGL 151,013 individuals living in LGL with first doses, 146,708 with second doses, 3,292 with third doses. (last update Nov. 9, +326 first doses, +618 second doses, +602 third doses since previous update Nov. 2).
- Today (Nov. 15) would have been the day Ontario lifted capacity limits for the remainder of settings where proof of vaccination is required. But, due to the rise in the number of infections, that’s been postponed for at least 28 days.
- The Upper Canada District School Board reported new COVID-19 cases associated with CCVS in Cornwall, Rockland Public School and the Cornwall campus of TR Leger. The schools remain open and are running normally today (Monday).
- Health Canada has approved the Moderna vaccine to booster shots. The official notice was posted by the agency on Friday. The Moderna boosters are half-doses of the regular shot and will be for adults, at least six months after their second shot.
- Eight residents at a northwestern Connecticut nursing home have died from an outbreak of coronavirus. There are also 78 other residents and 22 staff infected with the virus in Canaan, which is near the border with Massachusetts. The eight victims had serious health issues, according to officials at the home.
