Here are the latest local, regional and national headlines on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) for Thursday, November 11, 2021:
- There have been 604,606 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across Ontario, an increase of 454 cases from the previous day (VAX: 211 unvaccinated, 11 partially vaccinated, 205 fully vaccinated, 27 unknown). There have been 590,641 people recovered from the virus while 9,912 have died. The number of Ontario people tested is 19,229,999 of which 11,901 have pending results.
- Canada’s coronavirus case total is 1,740,005. The country has 29,249 deaths from the virus – 10 in the Yukon, 11 in the Northwest Territories, four in Nunavut, 2,234 in British Columbia, 3,164 in Alberta, 878 in Saskatchewan, 1,268 in Manitoba, 9,912 in Ontario, 11,529 in Quebec, 121 in New Brunswick, 16 in Newfoundland & Labrador and 102 in Nova Scotia.
- The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit added seven cases Wednesday to bring the regional total to 1,972 confirmed cases, of which 27 are active (three more than Tuesday) and 1,881 are recovered (four more than Tuesday). The number of deaths to date is 64. There is no one in hospital. There are no active institutional outbreaks. The community case breakdown is: Lanark County East 441 cases (nine active), Lanark County West 439 cases (four active), Leeds-Grenville Central 245 cases (four active), Leeds-Grenville East 396 cases (three active), Leeds-Grenville West 219 cases (four active) and Unknown/Out of Region 25 cases (three active).
- The Eastern Ontario Health Unit added 15 cases Wednesday – two in SD&G, seven in Cornwall and six in Akwesasne – to bring the regional total to 5,891 confirmed cases, of which 66 are active (three more than Tuesday) and 5,695 are resolved (12 more than Tuesday). The number of deaths to date is 129. There are 12 people in hospital (one fewer than Tuesday) and three in the ICU (one fewer than Tuesday). There are three institutional outbreaks (one fewer than Tuesday). Testing increased 284 to 168,976. The breakdown of cases is: Prescott-Russell 2,270 cases (nine active), SD&G 1,361 cases (17 active), Cornwall 1,772 cases (34 active) and Akwesasne (ON/QC) 488 cases (six active)(Akwesasne health department reported one new case Wednesday: 490 total cases, six active, nine deaths to date).
- Vaccines: Ontario 22,652,266 (+15,257, last update Nov. 10); EOHU 332,335 (last update Nov. 10, +468 from previous update Nov. 9); LGL 151,013 individuals living in LGL with first doses, 146,708 with second doses, 3,292 with third doses. (last update Nov. 9, +326 first doses, +618 second doses, +602 third doses since previous update Nov. 2).
- Ontario is pausing the lifting on capacity limits on high-risk venues like nightclubs, strip clubs, sex clubs and bathhouses, based on a rise in COVID-19 case counts. But Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Kieran Moore is not about to impose any new restrictions. The pause will be reviewed in a month.
- Manitoba is poised to bring in more restrictions but what those will be is still unknown. There were 143 new cases Wednesday and two more deaths. The chief public health officer of Manitoba has hinted at capacity limits, gathering restrictions and more places requiring proof of vaccinations but nothing has been decided.
- Yukon Premier Sandy Silver says leading the country in vaccination rates didn’t protect it from being back in a state of emergency with a recent surge in cases. There are widespread cases that are yet untraceable in Whitehorse.
- Nova Scotia is dealing with an outbreak at a long-term care home in the northern part of the province with 22 residents and staff members infected as of Wednesday. The number has grown from 19 on Tuesday.
