DELTA – The mayor of Rideau Lakes Township is recovering after suffering a heart attack.

Arie Hoogenboom was reportedly in Ottawa Thursday night (Nov. 4) when he complained of not feeling well and had his wife call 911, believing he was having a stroke or heart attack.

His suspicions were correct as the mayor had to have two stents inserted in the arteries to his heart, according to radio station Lake 88. Stents are mesh tubes that are used to open constricted arteries to major organs.

A township committee of council meeting this afternoon has been postponed a week, though Hoogenboom is spirited and wants to get back to work, mostly likely virtually.
