KEMPTVILLE – The part owner of a Kemptville bakery has been named the 2019 recipient of the Bill Thake Memorial Award.
Debbie Wilson was presented with the award Friday during the Leeds-Grenville Economic Development Summit at the North Grenville Municipal Center.
Wilson is co-owner of Grahame’s Bakery and is also the chairman of the Old Town Kemptville BIA. She also helped with the creation of the Kemptville and District Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 and is also a member of an economic development committee.
The economic development leadership award is named after Thake, who served 52 consecutive years on Westport town council, still holding the distinction as the longest serving head of a municipality in Canada. He was also warden of the United Counties of Leeds-Grenville four times.
Bill’s widow, Marlene Thake, helped present the award on Friday.
