BROCKVILLE – A bakery and cafe owner from Gananoque has been named the Leeds-Grenville Immigrant Entrepreneur Award winner for 2019.

Yun Ting Tsai of Panache Bakery & Cafe is also the first winner from Gananoque.

She was recognized during the Bridges to Better Business Conference at the Brockville Country Club on Thursday.

Ting moved to Canada from Taiwan and faced the struggle of setting up her business, such as being turned down for financing. She started at a farmer’s market and her dream took off from there.

The Panache Bakery and Cafe on King Street East in downtown Gananoque serves primarily “Canadian” food and has also some Taiwan selections.

“We are so pleased to recognize Ting for her resilience, resourcefulness, and commitment to her business and Gananoque. Managing a number of significant challenges simultaneously, Ting was able to rise above and plot a path towards her dream,” said Melissa Francis, Program Manager of the St. Lawrence-Rideau Immigration Partnership.

This is the fifth year for the award.
