PRESCOTT – A Brockville woman is accused of defrauding an Ottawa man of roughly $20,000 by using their relationship.

It’s called the “familiar fraud” where a person leverages a close relationship, such as a close friend or family member, for their own financial gain.

The Grenville County O.P.P. Crime Unit says the accused had “befriended” a 41-year-old Ottawa man and then used the victim’s identity and personal information to carry out the fraud.

The victim lost about $20,000.

Katrina Gilmour, 35, of Brockville, Ont. will appear in city courtroom on April 12, 2019 to face charges of fraud, forgery and identity theft.
