WIARTON, Ont. – Canada’s two groundhogs don’t seem to agree on when spring will arrive.
Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam saw his shadow this morning (Saturday) and scurried back into his burrow. According to tradition that means six more weeks of winter.
But in Ontario, Wiarton Willie did not see his shadow, declaring an early spring, the same as Punxsutawney Phil did in Pennsylvania.
The fun tradition actually has no bearing on the weather – today is a little more than six weeks away from the first day of spring (March 20).
So, my #prediction is #official. I didn’t see my shadow so an early spring it is. #officialprediction #earlyspring #WiartonWillie #Wiarton #PredictionMorning #GroundhogDay
