Tractor trailer fire closes westbound Highway 401 near Mallorytown

Update 11:56pm Friday: The westbound lanes of the highway have reopened.

MALLORYTOWN – A section of the westbound lanes of Highway 401 is closed tonight (Friday) after a tractor trailer fire.

Police and township firefighters were called the highway around 7:20 p.m.

Pictures from the scene show a box trailer fully engulfed in flames. It appears the truck was able to separate from the trailer and move away from the fire.

The westbound lanes were closed at County Road 5.

Eastbound traffic is unaffected.

A reopening time for the westbound highway is not known, the O.P.P. tweeted.
