Baker squeaks out win as next Brockville mayor

BROCKVILLE – The saying “every vote counts” rang true for city councillor and mayoral candidate Jason Baker as he beat his closest challenger by 19 votes.

Baker received 3,033 votes in Monday night’s municipal election. Businessman Mark Oliver was on his heels behind with 3,014. Challengers Cec Drake finished with 1,356 and Kelly Cole finished with 286 votes.

Half of the council table will change with four incumbents coming back while Coun. Phil Deery lost his seat.

  • Mike Kalivas 4,054 (incumbent)
  • Jane Fullerton 3,806 (incumbent)
  • Larry Journal 3,126
  • Jeffrey Earle 3,043 (incumbent)
  • Nathalie Lavergne 2,993
  • Leigh Bursey 2,843 (incumbent)

Voter turnout in Brockville was just over 50 per cent.
