ELGIN – Police are looking for a suspect after an early afternoon bank robbery in Elgin.
Leeds County O.P.P. say the suspect, concealing his face with a red bandanna and sunglasses, went into the Bank of Montreal between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Police are only saying that a “theft” had taken place but haven’t elaborated on what was taken from the Main Street bank.
The crime brought out a heavy response with police, including the O.P.P. canine unit, O.P.P. Crime Unit and the Emergency Response Team (ERT). Nearby schools were locked down as a precaution but that precaution has since been lifted.
Police have not said whether the suspect had a weapon.
The perpetrator is described as “possibly male” and was wearing a yellow rain poncho and blue windbreaker-style hoodie.
