BROCKVILLE – An O.P.P. dive team has been called in this afternoon (Friday) to aid in the search for a missing man.
The extensive search on the water and in the air started this morning.
“The investigation into this incident is ongoing and still developing. Hardy Park along with the boat ramps to Henry Street and Home Street are closed. We appreciate your patience while we conduct this investigation,” Brockville Police Service Staff Sgt. Andrew Harvie said in a statement to media around 3:30 p.m.
Police received calls late last night (Thursday) about a man “possibly” in the St. Lawrence River somewhere between Henry Street and Home Street.
The missing man is identified as 33-year-old Damian Sobieraj.
Police are also hoping to speak to a couple of people who were pushing a baby stroller in Hardy Park Thursday night between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. They spoke with officers at the scene.
A Brockville police boat was patrolling the water around Hardy Park while an O.P.P. helicopter was circling the area between Hardy Park and the west end of Blockhouse Island.
