ROCKPORT – Search teams were expected to be out on the water again today (Tuesday) looking for an 11-year-old boy, presumed drowned after a boating accident over the Labour Day weekend.

Witnesses and family have described the Saturday mishap as a freak accident. It’s believed the boat hit choppy waves, caused by a lot of boat traffic, and capsized, though O.P.P. have not released an official cause of the accident.

They did say that alcohol was not a factor.

Four people were able to make it to shore safety but an 11-year-old boy from Ottawa failed to resurface in the St. Lawrence River.

Leeds County O.P.P. say the boy was vacationing with his family.

The O.P.P., RCMP, Canadian Coast Guard, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center at CFB Trenton and the Leeds and Thousand Islands Fire Department have all had a hand in the search.
