BROCKVILLE – Organizers are preparing for next week’s Kidney Walk in Brockville.
The non-competitive walk, which starts at the Hardy Park Bandshell, is meant to raise awareness of kidney health and organ donation.
The Sept. 8 walk is among 35 Ontario communities taking part. It’s the largest community fundraiser for the Kidney Foundation.
This year’s province-wide fundraising goal is $900,000.
Around one in 10 Canadians has kidney disease and over 11,500 Ontarians rely on dialysis treatments in order to stay alive while waiting for a donor, according to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
This year’s Brockville ambassadors are Dawn Telgen and her daughter, Destiny, who was diagnosed at two years old with polycystic kidney disease.
The walk starts on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 at 10 a.m.
