PRESCOTT – Spotting a raccoon in your backyard is not a 911 call.
That’s one example from Thursday’s call log Grenville County O.P.P. used to drive home the point that 911 is for emergencies only.
The service also received five pocket dials from people’s cell phones – calls an officer has to respond to.
“When the police receive a 911 call, they must respond, and two officers will attend the location of the call. This places a strain on police resources and may place others, with real emergencies, at risk,” the O.P.P. said.
You should only be dialing 911 for any situation where people or property is at risk and needs to be dealt with immediately, such as a burglary, a drunk driving or a fire.
For anything else, the O.P.P. can be reached at 1-888-310-1122.
